Every IKEA product that requires assembly has all required hardware included in the package. Special tools, like a metric hex or a flat wrench are also included. Standard household tools like a hammer or screwdriver are not included. If you do not have them at home, for about $8 you can get a set right at the IKEA store. Look for an orange box called FIXA. This 15 piece tool set includes hammer, adjustable wrench, pliers and screwdriver with bits for slotted, cross-headed and Allen screws.

Make sure you get the correct set, because there are two kinds. The other 4 piece tools set includes saw, rubber mallet, level and a tape measure. You may need it for installing shelves and only if you want to make shelves shorter.

Products like shelves or tall cabinets that have to be fastened to the wall do not include screws and plugs that have to be inserted into the wall. This is because there are different wall types like plaster, cement, brick or wood that require different fasteners. You can get the box of 72 fasteners for about $3 right at the IKEA store. They are also called FIXA.

All IKEA products requiring assembly have the white assembly instructions booklet packaged with the product. The instructions are extremely clear and easy to follow. This is because there are no words there, just drawings or pictures. It is smarter not to use written instructions because there is no need to translate them to multiple languages. We all know how difficult it is to read some technical lingo especially translated from another language. Follow the pictures carefully step by step and you get the product assembled correctly.

If you threw away the instructions that came with the product thinking that this was a packing material there is still hope for you!

How, where can I get assembly instructions?

My readers frequently ask this question. The answer is simple. Just search the web site ikea.com. It may be obvious, but little challenging if you are not an avid web user.

Here are the instructions on how to find them.

1. Go to website ikea.com and select your country and language.

2. Look to the left, middle of the page (notice a giant arrow pointing there)

Here is the enlargement of the section pointed to by a giant arrow.
3. Click on the link “Assembly Instructions”

4. Assembly Instruction page shows up.

Select the product by name and you will get the PDF version of the assembly instructions for your product. This is what you were looking for. Now you can save it and print it or better follow it on screen without wasting ink and paper.

Still have questions?
Just ask.

Since last night there is no more DirecTV for us.

We were subscribing to Premier package with 265 channels, including all HBO, starz, encore, SHOWTIME, all locals and many others in standard and HD version. The reason for subscribing to this package was that this was the only package offering FLIX and sundance channels.

The monthly cost was equal to monthly payment for a small car. Now we have rabbit ears, but they are better – free and digital.

When the customer service rep asked me why I want to discontinue my DirecTV service, I said – I will give you a standard answer – “the economy is bad”. Without any further discussion he asked when I want my service to be discontinued. Now, I said. He said – since you are under no commitment anymore, you owe us nothing. We will send you boxes with prepaid postage. Put the leased receivers in the boxes and call FedEx to pick them up. That is it.

That was easy. Hearing my wife’s screams was not. She did not approve the decision since I disconnected her favorite Jadeworld channels. Five standard resolution channels for just $36.99 per month – what a deal worth screaming about.

Since we are saving so much money, now I can go and buy my bike and will sleep with it in the garage.

The economy is bad, everyone in the family has an iPhone and we do not use traditional phone anymore.

Actually we had a landline without the cord for the past four years. Vonage provided the service. I explained to the customer service guy that we had a great service, no problems. He offered free month, free six months, $10/month. I said that I do not want to call again after six months to discontinue the service.

Cut it now! So he did. Not even waited for the remaining five days of the current, paid for month, and there was silence – forever.

Today, I discovered a solution to my bath problem. While at IKEA, I decided to take a look at the closet that caught my eye. The doors to the closet were replaced with cloth panels using KVARTAL track system. Next to the closet was a bathroom and there was a solution staring at me. A rectangular RAAN rod with FLORENCE curtain and RINGSJON rings. It took less than five minutes to install.

Here it is. My personal office bathroom problem solved.

Inside there is a coloring contest page and twelve coupons worth total of $21.00. You can use one coupon per month. The December coupon is worth $5.00. Not everybody will be patient to carry the coupons the whole year around. I did that last year and have set of coupons in my wallet for this year.
