Bestdomainsarehere no more
I just cancelled my reseller account with GoDaddy (also called Wild West Domains). After four years of their confusing interface, I am free. Moved my domains to 1and1 because they offer better prices and less, but sometimes still confusing, modern interface. Domains Priced Right, operated by GoDaddy, took over my clients, if there were any.
All of the domain registrars have problems. They like to challenge user's sanity with feature overloaded web interfaces. Guys, simplicity and fast database updates are the key. That is why I still pay higher prices for some domains registered with OpenSRS operated by Tucows. Their management interface is text based and simple. Database updates are instantaneous.
I have no more domains with NetworkSolutions. Their prices, $35 for a .com name, are you kidding or insane? Read the fine print of their service bundling advertising in detail. Ten years ago they used to be the only game in town. That would explain why their customer service has been arrogant with me. Take for example a simple question: "I would like to find out what domains use my DNS server named ns1.example.com", answer: "We do not have this kind of information". Who does? You operate .com Registry and own the database. This gives me two choices. Lookup 6,000,000 domain names or abandon the domain server name. They also used to offer 100 years domain renewals.
Another interesting and forgotten fact is that about ten years ago domain name registrations were free of charge.
