The Time Machine is great.
It looks futuristic and it does backup automatically. Restoring is easy and fast. Well, that depends on how much you are going to restore. Small files and folders less than 10MB in size take no time. I tried to restore my Parallels virtual machine containing Win XP. Total size of all folders was close to 15GB.
It took almost five hours to restore it.
Re your VM restore. Where did you find the VM file. Some say theirs is in a Paralells folder in Documents but mine isn’t. I know I have to restore the whole VM – an accounting program under Windows XP got corrupted and I need to go back to a previous save.

Steve,
Mine is in home dir/Parallels. The easiest way to find it is to open Finder and type "VM hard disk" in a Search box. Using quotes will find the hard disk only. Without quotes you will also find Parallels PDF files.
